Local guide

Buying a bungalow in Toronto Region

Toronto has more bungalows than anywhere else in Ontario, and most of them sit in the post-war suburbs built between the late 1940s and the 1960s. Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke are full of brick bungalows on wide lots, many with a side door and a finished basement that works as an in-law suite. East York is known for smaller bungalows on tighter lots at lower prices, while the old city has only pockets of them. Buyers here are often choosing between renovating a solid original home, adding a second suite for rental income, or buying for the lot. Subway and GO access varies a lot from one neighbourhood to the next, so it pays to compare areas before you compare houses.

There are 1,262 bungalow-style homes for sale in Toronto Region today. Asking prices run from $439K to $48M, with a median of $1.07M. 176 were listed in the past week. The typical listing has been on the market for 28 days.

The most listings are in North York (402, median $1.29M), Scarborough (381, median $915K), Etobicoke (282, median $1.2M), York (102, median $914K) and Old Toronto (Downtown) (49, median $1.3M).
